Open mics come and go, and we can't keep on top of them all by ourselves.

It's a good idea to call the venue first and make sure it's still open.

Help us out -- Submit a new open mic or tell us about a dead one at changes (AT) openmicvancouver (DOT) com

Don't forget to read the comments at the bottom of the page. Someone may have reported a new or closed open mic there too.

Cafe Deux Soleils is not a real open mic, it's rigged. I've been there at least five times and haven't been picked but a certain band gets on every week. Unless you're part of the "Clique" I wouldn't waste my time going there if you want to play. He picks the names out of the jar, but there's no proof that what he is reading is actually on the paper...

ben?15 April 2008, 16:04

About Cafe Deux Soleils being rigged,

 that is 100% correct.

I came there 4 times in a row, my name

  was never picked.

I even gave Craig Allen $5.00 tip,

I never get a time slot.

Anyone been to the Sandpiper Pub open mic? Thinking about checking it out

14 August 2008, 02:25

Come out to the Rusty Gull Pub. I am one of the Hosts, as we rotate and if you are Acoustic Based you'll be up on stage and playing after signing up. Not a clique...but an open Jam, The way it should be. fun, easy going and if you really impress it can be a great place for Showcasing for Steel Productions who are a Vancouver Booking Agency and Sponsor.

B?19 September 2008, 18:34

I was at the rusty gull on sept 18. This is a GREAT place, run very professionally. Good gear - good beer. I'll be back.

Leo?14 November 2008, 16:22

IMO open mics are not a very good way to promote your songs. Everybody there is out to promote his/her own stuff and there is lots ill will and jeaulousy going around. One is better off playing his stuff to random people on the street or wherever, frankly.

LIVE RUST?21 November 2008, 06:53

Well thanks B? that was me Running the Jam at The Rusty Gull that Night! and yeah it is a great Jam. Come on out for more.

mcee iris ?17 January 2009, 08:22

is there any spoken word at these. weather keats or donne and percy sheilly. or just freestlyes and yes i do realize music today In this industry is a joke. but bring it back to a collabration with all other arts mathmatics writing to this. weather is just anti violence or making people laugh or impro. and ryhming with one word..broken down to the next

P?25 January 2009, 23:05

There's more talent at the Anza open mic than in 90% of open mics across the country...People like ShadK (Juno nominated) Hey Ocean, DNA6, Quest Poetics,Zayne (aka Eric Solomon) etc. etc. etc...It's actually ridiculous the amount of talent in that room...It's actually quite intimidating...But...It really pushes you to be better...An amazing night..Probably the best open mic in Vancouver...200-300 people stuffed in a room to hear music at an open Mic? Crazy...It's that good...

Luke?04 February 2009, 01:29

Is Rusty Gull the only place where there are talent agents? Because otherwise why go to any other pubs if no talent agent will see you there? Sounds like the American Idol or something.

kman?23 March 2009, 12:50

i am part of a 3 piece band, we are thinking of trying an open mic to get the feel of playing in front of people, anyone have any decent recomendations?

and what is considered a beginner someone who hasnt played in front of people or someone who cant play there music?

Guest?20 April 2009, 20:46

I like the rumble 100 bass. Amp at the Fireside

Michael?11 May 2009, 02:39

Oh, and also, I have to say the BEST open mic that I've ever been too, and I would actually pay money to see, is the open mic in White Rock, at the "SANDPIPER", it's fabulous, super talented musician's, and really well run, do go and see this place if you haven't been there!

william?27 August 2009, 11:59

Cafe Deux Soleil is not rigged, you just have to know how to play the system there.

nobody important?18 September 2009, 14:43

I would have to say cafe deux soleil is in fact rigged the "system" of yr name stays in the jar week after week is a joke I went 4 times in a row each time my name being added again so in theory my name by the 4th week in the jar 4 times guy arrives late, open mic names are being drawn asks to put his name in surprise surprise his name drawn next & he has performed each time of the 4 I'd been this has happened when there were 3 of us all on our 2nd time in a row not being drawn & a person who joined us that night talked herself into talking the host into drawing her name as she was from out of town oddly too her name was drawn, as she had said the host said he would pick my name (some system), the draw is a sham have it be honest, a closed, invitational "open" mic

LIVE RUST?29 September 2009, 03:48

Some sad news, The Bull' n Raven had to close the Doors. The Open Mic was their most successful night but not enough to keep the Venue running. To all who came to my Open Mic, many thanks, it was a Blast and you all made it extremely enjoyable! If you find yourself out this way...come to The Bad Dog Grill in Mission, I now run the Open Mic there on Wednesdays. Same style Acoustic Open Mic and a very nice Venue. Thanks again...see you in the future! Roger Potter

Jill?03 October 2009, 11:53

"Nobody important": If you've been there twice and he hasn't picked your name, especially now that it's been four times, talk to the host about getting you on.

Monta ?12 November 2009, 18:40

the atmosphere at the ANZA is in-credible! If you wanna be inspired, i highly recommend it.

Good to know about Cafe Deux Soleils - someone recommended the room to me, but if that's the system, I'll skip it.

christian?04 March 2010, 14:06

team shadow?05 March 2010, 16:08

Jill?11 March 2010, 02:47

Christian, if you know which places don't do open mics anymore, could you please send them to me at changes@openmicvancouver.com? Thanks so much.

Jill?11 March 2010, 02:48

Also, everyone: Don't forget to call first to make sure a place is still open.

outragged Dad?17 May 2010, 01:40

I say everyone should boycott the Cafe Du Soleil.

robert alan white?24 May 2010, 14:41

I would enjoy seeing your talent at the Fireside. Every Tuesday and Thursday for the last 3 years. Robert Alan White

Brigzy?03 June 2010, 20:52

where are the jams in Vancouver city that have drum kits? I just want to go out for a drink, meet cool people and get up and rock. Seems like there is a shortage of places like this in Van
